Urban Plunge, our fall service immersion retreat, provides students with an experience of social justice through displacement, compassion, solidatiry and action.
The experience consists of a four-day local mission into discovering who is our neighbor over the course of SMU Fall Break.
Students are invited to live alongside and build relationships with older adults, the homeless, refugees, and children--right here in the heart of Dallas. Students will have the opportunity to live in community, learn about these various populations, spend time in prayer, and grow in awareness of the people around them.
Rooted in Catholic social teachings, the program teaches students to adopt a see-judge-act model of service that is open to relationships with others first, growing in solidarity with them second and then deciding on a course of social justice action.
