As I write, we are in the midst of celebrating the Fourth Sunday of Lent. Despite our isolation, social distancing, and new online classes format, we are working to maintain faith formation, spiritual guidance, and provide Mass for students and our SMU Catholic community. We are grateful to those who joined our first Facebook Live Mass this past weekend. We will continue these as long as we are prevented from holding Mass in person and will share details on how to access. It is our pleasure to bring you the Word of the Lord and the Eucharist, especially when we need it most.
With the safety and health of our Ministry supporters and students top of mind, we want to let you know that we will postpone our 2020 Spring Celebration, which was to be held on April 25. Of note, SMU has moved to online classes for the remainder of the semester, and the George W. Bush Presidential Center, where we had planned to hold our Celebration, has closed indefinitely. For those of you who have already purchased tickets or a sponsorship, we will be in touch with further details. We hope to reschedule at a later date this year as this event is an important fundraiser for our Ministry. We will keep everyone updated as the situation solidifies.
Many changes have come into our lives with the spread of COVID-19, and our inability to worship together is one facet. The other facet is the absence of Sunday collections, which also provide significant support for our Ministry at SMU. If you are able to give at this time, please consider financially supporting the Ministry through online giving at
smucatholic.org, Venmo @smucatholic, or mailing checks to the address listed below.
Most importantly, please know that social distancing does not mean social isolation. We are blessed to have a solid, large, caring Catholic community. We must pray together for the end of this epidemic, pray for the safety and strength of healthcare professionals, and for healing in our community and around the world. We anxiously await when we will be able to gather again in Holy Communion with you. Until then, please lean on us should you need anything.
Blessings to you and your family,
Father Arthur
